The Woodhaven Residents' Block Association (WRBA) will host a community barbecue this Saturday, June 14, from noon to 4 p.m., to thank the members of American Legion Post 118 for their service.
The barbecue is open to all. There will be no charge for the hot dogs, burgers, and salads that will be served to express Woodhaven's gratitude on Flag Day.
"The American Legion has been a part of the Woodhaven community for nearly a century," said WRBA Director Edward K. Wendell. "Over the years, many traditions have gradually disappeared, but the American Legion has remained a constant. The barbecue will be a great way to thank our veterans and to get to know your neighbors."
This family-friendly event will include flags for children and an explanation by veterans regarding the treatment and proper disposal of American flags. Local students from St. Thomas the Apostle School have been invited to deliver a Flag Day presentation.
The barbecue will take place at the American Legion Hall, 89-02 91st Street. The WRBA's next Town Hall will be at the same location on Saturday, June 21, at 10 a.m.
